2025 NATIONAL LEARN TO ROW DAY

JUNE 7th, 2025

​The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, CANDO's Team Tampa Rowing, and The Tampa Athletic Club annually host the USRowing National Learn to Row Day on the first Saturday of June.

Come out and give rowing a try! This FREE event will introduce you to rowing on the water. Middle school, high school students, and adults of all ages are encouraged to attend (minimum age of 10 years old).​​​​​​​​

  • Location:
    Tampa River Center at Julian B Lane Park
    1001 N Blvd, Tampa, FL 33606
     

  • Times:
    You can choose from one of four available times
    > 7am - 9am
    > 8am - 10am
    > 9am - 11am
    > 10am - 12pm
     

  • Requirements:
    > No rowing experience is necessary!
    > Must be 10 years or older
    > Must be able to perform a full squat and lift 45lbs overhead
    > Must complete required waivers, which will be provided at check-in​

Volunteer Information

​​​​​

  • Please, volunteers, be at the boathouse by 6:30 am to get everything set up before our 7 am start time

​​​Setup/ Cleanup: All volunteers will be setting and cleaning up ergs, launches, and rowing shells. 

 

Registration: Check-in New Rowers and Make sure lineups are good to go on the water. we have premade lineups but sometimes people no-show or those new visitors who want to add in. Volunteers will communicate lineup changes to on-land volunteers so they can help make necessary adjustments on the dock.

Erg Demo: Help Duke Demostrate and correct erg technique. Help usher new rowers off the balcony and down to the docks to be boated

 

Tour/Wrap up: Volunteer will talk to rowers after they complete their on-the-water session. Give information on youth and adult rowing programs. Give boathouse tour if necessary. Pitch fundraising opportunities on Give Butter.

 

Coach/Driver: will coach on the water session. Driver will help coach but mainly focus on where the boat is on the river and help coxswains navigate traffic. 

 

Rowing/Coxing/Launching/Recovering: Most youth rowers will be rowing and coxswaining. Adult rowers can switch in at any time they would like but if they are not rowing,  they will be helping launch and recover 8s. They will also be fill-ins in case there are no-shows.

 

Each Session Will Include

 

  • Sign In & Complete Waivers - 15min

  • Rowing Machine Technique Intro - 20min

  • ROW ON THE WATER! - 60min

  • Recap and Boathouse Tour - 25min

Session 1   7:00am-9am

  • 7:00-7:15:Sign in/Waivers

  • 7:15-7:35: Erg Demo

  • 7:35-8:35: Water

  • 8:35-9:00:Tour

Session 2   8:00am-10am:

  • 8:00-8:15:Waivers

  • 8:15-8:35:Erg Demo

  • 8:35-9:35: Water

  • 9:35-10:00: Tour

Session 3   9:00am-11am

  • 9:00-9:15:Waivers

  • 9:15-9:35:Erg Demo

  • 9:35-10:35: Water

  • 10:35-11:00: Tour

Session 4   10:0am-12pm

  • 10:00-10:15:Waivers

  • 10:15-10:35:Erg Demo

  • 10:35-11:35: Water

  • 11:35-12:00: Tour
